The Birth of Coffee
In the highlands of Ethiopia, where coffee was born over a thousand years ago, legend tells of a young goat herder named Kaldi who discovered his flock dancing with unusual energy after eating certain red berries from highland shrubs.
This was the moment that changed the world forever. From these ancient Ethiopian highlands, coffee spread across continents, becoming the second most traded commodity on earth. Yet here, in its birthplace, the tradition continues unchanged.
We are the guardians of this original legacy, the keepers of coffee's true heritage, where wild varietals still grow in the shade of ancient forests and every harvest connects us to the very beginning of coffee culture.
The Meaning of our name
Named after a native forest tree, HANGEDI represents the deep connection between land, people, and nature. Our coffee is single-origin, organic, and forest-grown, a reflection of the place it comes from and the care behind every cup.
For seven years, HANGEDI Coffee has proudly served the Ethiopian market. Now, we’re ready to share our highland-grown Guji specialty coffee with the world. Cultivated at altitudes between 2,000 and 2,200 meters, our beans are processed using washed, natural, and anaerobic methods, all to bring out the purest expression of Ethiopia’s coffee heritage.
Our coffee grows wild under forest shade, handpicked by local farmers who’ve known the land for generations. Each bean carries the story of a place, a people, and a process, and now, we’re bringing that story to you.
